George R.R. Martin is keeping busy with multiple projects set in Westeros, and one of the most exciting is the upcoming spinoff Aegon’s Conquest. According to Martin, HBO is developing the story about King Aegon Targaryen’s historic unification of the Seven Kingdoms, and Warner Bros. is also exploring it as a huge, Dune-sized feature film.

Martin shared that his attention is divided across books, shows, events, and other ventures, which all compete for his focus. Some of his work involves collaborating with writers on new, still-unannounced Thrones projects. One of these projects is based on the Sea Snake, a character introduced in House of the Dragon. That concept has shifted from live-action to animation to keep costs under control.

While Martin has resisted direct sequels to Game of Thrones, mainly because the ending of his A Song of Ice and Fire books will differ from the HBO series, Aegon’s Conquest offers a chance to explore Westeros in a way that won’t conflict with his novels. Martin says, “Some characters who are alive in my book are going to be dead in the show, and vice versa.”

Fans can expect Aegon’s Conquest to arrive in two possible formats: either as an HBO series or as a massive theatrical movie. Martin’s involvement promises a story that stays true to his vision of Westeros, offering new history and battles from the era of Aegon Targaryen.

This project could be a game-changer for Thrones fans who are eager for fresh stories that are fully aligned with Martin’s world. I’m curious to know what you think — do you prefer seeing it as a series or a feature film? Share your thoughts in the comments.
