‘God of War’ Fans Rejoice as Sif Gets Cast in Live-Action Series
Teresa Palmer has officially joined the cast of Amazon Prime Video’s live-action adaptation of the popular video game series God of War, Variety has confirmed.
Palmer will play Sif, the Norse goddess and wife of Thor, in the series. Ryan Hurst was previously announced to star as Kratos, the franchise’s main character. Interestingly, Hurst voiced Thor in the video game God of War: Ragnarok.
Palmer is best known for her work in film, including roles in Hacksaw Ridge, The Fall Guy, I Am Number Four, and Knight of Cups. On television, she has appeared in A Discovery of Witches, The Clearing, and Mix Tape. She is also set to star in the upcoming Australian series The Family Next Door.

The God of War series will follow the story of the two most recent games in the franchise. The plot centers on Kratos and his 10-year-old son Atreus as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of Faye, Kratos’ late wife and Atreus’ mother.
“Father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human,” the series logline reads.
The series has faced several changes during its development. Originally greenlit in 2022, the show lost its first showrunner, Rafe Judkins, in October 2024. Ronald D. Moore later joined as the new showrunner.
Moore will also serve as writer and executive producer through his production company Tall Ship Productions. Frederick E.O. Toye will direct the first two episodes, and the series is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios, PlayStation Productions, and Tall Ship Productions.
God of War is one of PlayStation’s most successful video game franchises, first created by David Jaffe and developed by Santa Monica Studio. It began in 2005 on the PlayStation 2 and has grown into a flagship series with nine main games and several spin-offs.
The story originally focused on Greek mythology, following Kratos’ revenge against the Olympian gods. Later entries shifted to Norse mythology, exploring Kratos’ redemption and his relationship with his son Atreus.
The games have won multiple awards, including Game of the Year honors for the 2005 and 2018 installments. They have been praised for their action gameplay, storytelling, and graphics. The franchise has sold over 66 million copies worldwide as of November 2023 and has expanded into novels, comics, and merchandise. A film adaptation was once in development but canceled, while the upcoming Amazon series will adapt the Norse era of the story.
Teresa Palmer joining the God of War series as Sif is an exciting step for fans of the franchise. With the story focusing on Kratos and Atreus’ journey, the casting of Sif adds another key character from the Norse mythology era. It will be interesting to see how the series brings these iconic characters to life. What do you think of Palmer as Sif? Share your thoughts in the comments.
