Piers Morgan Reveals He’s Been Rushed to the Hospital
Piers Morgan has revealed that he has been hospitalized following a serious fall that required surgery. The 60-year-old political commentator shared details of his ordeal on X and Instagram on Sunday, January 18.
Morgan explained that he tripped on a small step while at a London hotel restaurant, which led to a fractured femur. “1. Tripped on small step. 2. In a London hotel restaurant. 3. Fractured femur,” he wrote. The injury was severe enough that he needed a hip replacement. “4. So badly I needed [a] new hip. 5. Recovering in hospital. 6. Crutches for 6wks,” he added. Morgan also mentioned restrictions on travel during recovery, writing, “7. No long-haul for 12 wks. 8. New Year off to a cracking start!”

Alongside his post, Morgan shared a selfie from his hospital bed, giving a thumbs-up to the camera while clearly hooked up to an IV and receiving oxygen. In a typically humorous twist, he ended the update with a joke at the expense of President Donald Trump. “9. I blame Donald Trump,” he quipped. He also posted a photo of an x-ray showing the fracture near the hip joint.
Morgan offered more insight into his fall in the comments section of his post, describing the incident as embarrassing. He told one follower that “the shame of it all is worse than the pain!” and admitted he fell like a “sack of potatoes.” His lighthearted approach mirrors the way he shared news of a 2019 hospitalization, when he humorously blamed Trump along with a vegan sausage roll and Brexit for his stomach issues.
In that earlier hospitalization, Morgan explained, “If you really want to know, I was diagnosed with stomach gastritis and duodenitis. I blame eating a mouthful of vegan sausage roll, Brexit & Donald Trump.” Stomach gastritis, according to the Mayo Clinic, is an inflammation of the stomach lining often caused by infection, while duodenitis is inflammation of the small intestine, which can cause burning pain, nausea, and bloating.
Morgan also joked about the hospital experience itself, recalling his 2019 gastroscopy: “I can’t remember a damn thing about it. Sedatives are my new best friend.”
The commentator has kept busy despite his medical challenges. Most recently, he made headlines for a conversation with the late Rob Reiner, just months before Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were tragically killed.
Morgan had told Reiner during a September interview on his show, Piers Morgan Uncensored, “I’m not expecting this to happen anytime soon, Rob, you’re looking like a fine, healthy figure of a man. But should the moment come when we need to remember the work of Rob Reiner, which is the one for you, of everything that you’ve ever done, that you’d most like to be remembered for?”
