Alexander Skarsgård Clears the Air on Sexuality Rumors and Confirms Whether He Is Bisexual
Alexander Skarsgård is clearing the air after months of online talk about his sexuality. The actor finally addressed the rumors in a new interview and made it clear that people read too much into one comment he made last year. The speculation started after a press appearance in Europe and quickly took on a life of its own.
The moment that caused all the buzz happened at the Zurich Film Festival. Skarsgård was there promoting his new movie Pillion, where he plays a dominant man in a gay B*** relationship. While talking about acting and how much of himself he brings into a role, he made a comment that many people believed was a personal confession. He said, “I found that in this case, it’s not really relevant what my background is.” Then he added, “I mean, I do have a kid, but what I’ve done in the past, who I’ve been with, men, women…” The internet quickly ran with that line.
Soon after, fans began to speculate that Skarsgård had quietly come out as bisexual. Headlines spread fast, even though he never directly said that. At the time, he finished his thought by shifting back to the film and its message, saying the story itself was what mattered most to him.
Now, in a new cover interview with Variety, Skarsgård says the rumors were never his intention. According to Variety, he was surprised the comment caused so much attention. “Oh,” he said when asked about it. “That it resonated with my past? It was definitely not an intended statement.” He admitted the wording was messy and unclear. “I don’t know what I was talking about,” he added, laughing it off.
He explained that he was trying to move the focus away from his personal life and onto the film. “Maybe it was trying to shift the focus more to the story and these characters,” he said. “And the importance of telling the story like this.” He stressed that he was not making any statement about his sexuality and that the conversation simply went in a direction he didn’t expect.
The interview also touched on his recent red carpet looks, which have raised eyebrows during the Pillion press tour. Skarsgård has worn bold, gender-bending outfits inspired by bondage and leather. Still, he says that’s not how he dresses at home. “I never buy clothes,” he said. “If you saw my closet, my wardrobe is very limited.” He added, “I’m not a big consumer of fashion. I don’t spend money on expensive brands.”
Pillion is set to hit theaters on February 6 and has already sparked strong reactions for its raw subject matter. The film is being praised for showing a side of a subculture that is rarely seen on screen. Skarsgård says that honesty is what drew him to the role in the first place.
The actor remains one of the most private stars in Hollywood, despite his long career and famous family.
