Hilary Swank found herself in an awkward and tense situation at a Los Angeles airport this week when she confronted a mother she mistakenly thought was taking pictures of her twins.

According to RadarOnline, the incident involved Jada Bafus, who was traveling with her terminally ill son for a Make-A-Wish trip. What started as a misunderstanding quickly became a heated exchange at baggage claim.

Swank, the two-time Academy Award winner, approached Bafus aggressively after seeing her phone. “I hope you enjoy that picture,” Swank reportedly said, assuming the mother was trying to capture her without permission. Bafus, from Spokane, Washington, was shocked to realize it was Swank confronting her. “I was trying to call my husband. I wasn’t taking a picture,” Bafus explained.

The tension ended quickly, with Swank walking away, but Bafus admitted the encounter stung. “It was just the wrong, wrong place one time. She was having a bad day. It just hurt my feelings because I was starting my son’s Make-A-Wish trip, which she wouldn’t have known,” she said. The mother was traveling with her 7-year-old son Mason and 4-year-old Jack, both diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a severe and terminal form of muscular dystrophy.

After the airport confrontation, the situation was resolved privately. Swank reached out to Bafus on Instagram to apologize. She explained that she had been worried a stranger was trying to photograph her twins, Ohm and Aya, who were born in 2023 with her husband Philip Schneider. “She apologized and gave context for her aggression,” Bafus said, confirming that the misunderstanding was cleared up.

Despite the tense moment, Bafus said the incident didn’t ruin their Disney Make-A-Wish trip. She praised the staff and the organization for making the experience memorable for her children. “The staff treated us like VIPs throughout the stay,” she added, focusing on the joy of the trip rather than the confrontation.
