Emma Stone has solidified her place in Hollywood history this Thursday. The 2026 Oscar nominations were announced, and she had a fantastic morning. She picked up two major nominations for her work on the film Bugonia.

She is up for Best Actress for her leading performance in the movie. She is also up for Best Picture because she served as a producer on the project. These two nominations have pushed her into the record books.

At 37 years old, she has achieved something truly remarkable. She is now the second-youngest person in the history of the Academy Awards to reach seven nominations. The only person to ever do it at a younger age was the legendary Walt Disney.

Disney reached that milestone back in 1936. He was just 34 years old at the time. Stone has now surpassed a record previously held by Meryl Streep.

Streep was the youngest woman to reach seven nominations for decades. However, Streep was 38 years old when she earned her seventh nod in 1988. Stone has beaten that record by one year.

That is not the only history Emma Stone made this week. She is now the first woman ever to be nominated for acting and producing in the same film on two separate occasions. This is a very rare achievement in the film industry.

Frances McDormand was the first woman to accomplish this feat once. McDormand did it for the film Nomadland back in 2021. Stone followed her by doing it for the first time with Poor Things in 2023.

Now, she has done it again with Bugonia. This proves she is a double threat in the industry. She is just as talented behind the camera as she is in front of it. Stone has a very strong track record at the ceremony. Out of her previous five nominations, she has won twice. Both of those wins were in the category of Best Actress.

She won her first statue for the musical La La Land in 2016. Her second win came recently for Poor Things. If she wins again this year, she will join a very elite club. Only two women in history have won Best Actress three or more times. Katharine Hepburn holds the ultimate record with four wins. Frances McDormand has won the award three times.

The competition for Best Actress is very fierce this year. Stone is nominated alongside Jessie Buckley for her role in Hamnet. Rose Byrne is also in the running for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.

Kate Hudson secured a spot for her performance in Song Sung Blue. Finally, Renate Reinsve is nominated for Sentimental Value. It will be a close race to see who takes home the trophy.

In the Best Picture category, Bugonia faces some massive blockbusters and critical darlings. The racing film F1 is one of the nominees. The new horror adaptation of Frankenstein is also on the list.

Other contenders include Hamnet, Marty Supreme, and One Battle After Another. The list is rounded out by The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, and the vampire hit Sinners. It is a very crowded field with many different types of movies.

Bugonia received recognition in other important categories as well. Will Tracy was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. Jerskin Fendrix earned a nomination for Best Original Score.

Emma Stone has been a major star in Hollywood for over a decade. She first gained attention in teen comedies like Superbad and Easy A. Audiences fell in love with her wit and charm.

She became a global superstar when she played Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man movies. That role proved she could handle big-budget action films. However, she has spent recent years focusing on more artistic projects.

Bugonia marks another collaboration with director Yorgos Lanthimos. They have built a very strong creative partnership over the years. They first worked together on the period piece The Favourite.

They reunited for the Oscar-winning Poor Things. They also worked together on the anthology film Kinds of Kindness. Their work is known for being strange, funny, and visually unique.

We would love to know if you think Emma Stone will break the record and win her third Best Actress Oscar in the comments.
