Chris Noth Hits Back at Sarah Jessica Parker Comments During Sexual Assault Controversy
Chris Noth is making it clear that his long-standing bond with Sarah Jessica Parker has officially dissolved into the past. The actor, known to millions as the enigmatic Mr. Big, recently addressed the status of their relationship during an interview on the podcast Really Famous With Kara Mayer Robinson.
When asked about his former costar, Noth did not hold back regarding the distance between them. We’re not friends, I think that’s pretty obvious, Noth stated in a preview of the episode. He pointed directly to the public fallout following s**** assault allegations leveled against him in late 2021 as the catalyst for the fracture.
Specifically, Noth expressed deep frustration over a joint statement released by Parker and her And Just Like That… costars, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis. In that message, the trio supported the women who had come forward, a move Noth viewed as a betrayal of their personal history.
The statement that they put out — which was nothing more than brand management, really — I don’t know, it was sad, it was disappointing, it was surprising, because you need to call me and hear my side of this, Noth explained. He emphasized that after decades of working together, he expected a more personal reaching out before a public condemnation.
And you’ve known me for many years, and we’ve worked [together] for many years. And that didn’t happen, he added. The actor noted that the experience served as a harsh lesson in Hollywood loyalty and helped him distinguish his true friends from those who were merely colleagues.
I get it, that’s more Hollywood than Hollywood, Noth remarked about the pressure to manage public perception. But before you make that statement, you know me, you’ve known me all these years, give me a call so I can give you the real scoop about this.
The tension between the two actors recently spilled over onto social media when Noth appeared to agree with a fan’s derogatory comment about Parker’s recent Golden Globe honor. While he later dismissed the interaction as a tempest in a teapot, the exchange only served to highlight the lingering resentment between the former on-screen lovers.
The s***** assault allegations, which surfaced in December 2021, led to Noth being written out of the Sex and the City revival and removed from his role on the CBS series The Equalizer. Noth has consistently denied all claims of non-consensual encounters, though he did admit to extramarital affairs which he described as a side dance.
Since the scandal broke, Noth has largely stepped away from the spotlight to focus on his family and personal life. However, he is currently preparing for a professional comeback with a role in the upcoming independent horror film The Block.
Directed by Craig Singer, the film follows a once-successful horror writer who encounters a mysterious event that ends his writer’s block but carries a sinister price. Noth will star alongside Jack Falahee and Jackie Earle Haley in what marks his first major acting credit in several years.
Noth’s career has spanned over four decades, most notably defined by his roles as Detective Mike Logan on Law & Order and Peter Florrick on The Good Wife. Despite the controversies, the 71-year-old actor has maintained that he has more to offer creatively and refuses to let the allegations end his career entirely.
Do you think Sarah Jessica Parker should have reached out to Chris Noth privately before releasing a public statement, or was she right to distance herself immediately given the nature of the allegations? Share your thoughts in the comments.
