Brie Larson joins the franchise as Princess Rosalina, the guardian of the cosmos, while Benny Safdie has been cast as the Fire Kingdom’s heir, Bowser Jr. They join the original cast, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, and Jack Black as Bowser.

Chris Pratt teased that the movie contains several major reveals that haven’t been made public yet. I’m not allowed to say what they are, but yes, there are some really incredible… Well, I think some of them have been released in the trailer – Rosalina, Bowser Jr. – and then there’s even a couple more that are not in the trailer that people should be excited to see, Pratt shared.
The film is currently on track to land in theaters on April 3. This Sunday’s presentation is expected to provide deeper insight into the plot, which appears to take inspiration from the beloved Super Mario Galaxy game series, sending the characters into outer space for their latest adventure.
I think it is smart for Nintendo to lean into the “Galaxy” theme because it opens up so many creative possibilities for different planets and gravity-based action scenes. The addition of Bowser Jr. and Rosalina should bring a fresh dynamic to the group, and I’m personally hoping we finally see a proper big-screen debut for Yoshi in this sequel.
