Sydney Sweeney is used to attention, but this time it did not come from a movie or TV role. Instead, it came from a late-night stunt that has now caused legal headaches and a lot of online debate.
According to TMZ, the actress climbed Mount Lee after dark with a small production crew and made her way up to the Hollywood Sign. Video obtained by the outlet shows Sweeney climbing the structure and hanging a line of bras across the letter H. The move was meant to promote her new lingerie brand, which is reportedly backed by major funding tied to a firm connected to Jeff Bezos.
What was supposed to be a bold marketing moment quickly turned messy. While Sweeney’s team did have a permit from FilmLA to film near the landmark, sources say that the permit did not allow any contact with the sign itself. One source familiar with the permit explained that she did not have permission to touch or climb the sign itself.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which controls the sign and its use, was not pleased. They reportedly sent an email reminding the production company that the Hollywood Sign cannot be used for commercial purposes without special approval. That approval was never given in this case.
Legal experts told TMZ that the stunt could lead to real consequences. The report stated that Sydney climbing the hill and the sign and then festooning it with bras could even put her in legal jeopardy for criminal trespass and or vandalism. As of now, no charges have been confirmed, but the situation is still being reviewed.

Despite the controversy, Sweeney’s career shows no signs of slowing down. She recently earned strong reviews for her role in the thriller The Housemaid, which hit theaters at the end of 2025. The film performed well enough that a sequel is already in development.
She is also preparing to take on another high-profile role. In early 2026, she is expected to begin filming Scandalous, a romantic drama directed by Colman Domingo. The movie will see Sweeney play classic Hollywood star Kim Novak and focus on Novak’s secret relationship with Sammy Davis Jr.
