Henry Cavill is back in action, this time taking on the lead role in the reboot of Highlander, directed by Chad Stahelski, best known for the John Wick series. Cavill shared two first-look images from the set on Instagram Wednesday morning, giving fans a glimpse of his new role.

“Happy First Look for Highlander! This has been quite the journey for me, which I’ll tell you all about when the time is right, but it’s a special moment to be able to share this. I hope you enjoy,” he wrote.

Cavill was first announced for the project in 2021, but filming only recently began. The images show him wielding a large sword, hinting at intense action and possibly a globe-trotting story. Production faced a delay late last year after Cavill was injured while preparing for the film.

The reboot boasts a star-studded cast, including Russell Crowe, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela, and Max Zhang. Michael Finch is credited with the script, while Ryan J. Condal and Kerry Williamson contributed to earlier drafts.

The original Highlander, released in 1986, followed Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish warrior born in the 16th century, played by Christopher Lambert. Sean Connery starred as his mentor, Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, and Clancy Brown played the villainous Kurgan. The franchise continued with a 1991 sequel and later expanded through more films, TV shows, and novels.

This new version is expected to bring a modern edge to the classic story while keeping the high-stakes sword fights and immortal lore fans love. With Stahelski at the helm, the film could capture the slick, intense action style seen in John Wick.

This reboot has real potential to refresh a beloved classic. Cavill’s dedication and Stahelski’s action expertise could make Highlander a must-watch for both longtime fans and new audiences.
