HBO Eyes Another Westeros Hit — New ‘Game of Thrones’ Series Reportedly in Development Focuses on a Fan-Favorite ‘House of the Dragon’ Character
HBO is diving deeper into George R.R. Martin’s world of Westeros with several new projects in the works, giving fans even more reasons to stay excited.
Following the recent launch of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the network is reportedly developing multiple spinoffs that explore both the past and future of the Game of Thrones universe, according to Deadline.
One of the most talked-about projects is an animated series called Nine Voyages, which will focus on Lord Corlys Velaryon, the legendary Sea Snake known for his daring adventures across the seas.
Moving the story to animation was a practical decision. Martin explained that a live-action version would have been prohibitively expensive because it would require building new ports every week and filming countless sea sequences. Genndy Tartakovsky, famous for Samurai Jack and Primal, is reportedly attached to direct the series, promising a visually striking journey through unexplored parts of Martin’s world.
At the same time, HBO is reshaping its sequel plans for fan-favorite characters. A Jon Snow spinoff, originally meant to explore his life in the North, has reportedly shifted focus to Arya Stark. The new series, written by Quoc Dang Tran, will follow Arya on her travels across Essos, showing fans what lies West of Westeros and offering a long-awaited glimpse of her adventures beyond the known lands.
Steve Toussaint, who plays Corlys Velaryon in House of the Dragon, has spoken about the character’s legacy, highlighting the “Great Voyages” that made House Velaryon a powerhouse. Toussaint has been busy with both the show’s upcoming third season, set for summer 2026, and various UK stage productions, while also advocating for more diversity in fantasy storytelling.
HBO’s slate for 2026 is packed. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms debuted on January 18, offering a smaller, character-driven look at Westeros through Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg. Meanwhile, Aegon’s Conquest, written by Mattson Tomlin, is in development as both a potential series and a large-scale feature film, depicting the Targaryen dynasty’s violent rise to power.
