Everyone’s Obsessed With Hit Crime Series as ‘Masterpiece’ Finally Hits Netflix with 6 Seasons
Fans of gripping crime dramas have a new reason to celebrate: Animal Kingdom is now on Netflix. All six seasons of the acclaimed series became available for streaming on February 3, 2026, giving subscribers the chance to binge the show from start to finish.
The story centers on a teenager named Joshua, known as J, whose life changes after his mother dies from a drug overdose. Forced to move in with relatives in a Southern California beach town, J quickly realizes why his mother kept him away for so long. His grandmother, Janine Cody, or Smurf, runs a criminal empire with her sons, planning and executing high-stakes robberies. J has to navigate this dangerous world while dealing with Smurf’s intense and controlling love for her boys.
Animal Kingdom first premiered in 2016 and wrapped up in 2022. It is based on an Australian film of the same name, written and directed by David Michôd. Michôd remains active in Hollywood and recently released the sports biopic Christy, starring Sydney Sweeney, in theaters late last year.
Viewers have praised the series for its storytelling and performances. According to Rotten Tomatoes, Animal Kingdom has an impressive fan score of 88 percent. Many fans believe it rivals or even surpasses other popular crime dramas like Ozark or Breaking Bad. One viewer shared their excitement online, saying: “One of the best shows I’ve ever seen. I loved Ozark, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, but Animal Kingdom is better. It’s phenomenal!”
The same fan also spoke about the addictive nature of the series: “All seasons of the show get better and better as the series goes on and the cast is fantastic! I binge-watched all six seasons and I am so sad that I can’t watch anymore! It was THAT good. I mean, you have to watch the whole series to feel it. If you haven’t seen it—you don’t know what you’re missing. It is an absolute masterpiece. It keeps you wanting to watch more and more and keeps you on the edge of your seat.”
With the show now fully available on Netflix, new viewers can experience the intense drama and complicated family dynamics that made Animal Kingdom a standout hit. Fans of crime and thriller stories won’t want to miss it.
