Netflix is bringing back the fan-favorite comedy A Man on the Inside for a third season, Deadline reports. The renewal comes just over two months after the second season premiered on November 20, 2025.

While Netflix doesn’t always base renewals solely on viewership, especially for comedies, the streaming giant seems confident in the show’s creative team. Season 2 currently holds a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, even though it didn’t make the weekly Top 10 for English-language series.

Viewership for the second season dipped from the first, with 9.8 million viewers tuning in after the premiere. Still, Netflix appears to trust the vision of showrunner Mike Schur and lead actor Ted Danson.

“We are absolutely thrilled to partner with Netflix on another season of A Man on the Inside,” Schur said in a statement. “It’s a true joy to work with this entire team, most especially the handsome, erudite, and monstrously talented Ted Danson, a true American treasure whose contract stipulates exactly what adjectives I am allowed to use while describing him in press releases.”

The series, inspired by Maite Alberdi’s 2020 documentary The Mole Agent, first premiered in November 2024. It follows Danson’s character, Charles Nieuwendyk, a retiree who becomes an amateur private investigator. In the second season, Charles takes on a new case when Wheeler College president Jack Berenger hires him to go undercover as a professor after a mysterious blackmailer targets the school.

The show’s cast includes Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Lilah Richcreek Estrada, Stephanie Beatriz, and Mary Steenburgen. Season 2 also featured Max Greenfield, Gary Cole, Michaela Conlin, Lisa Gilroy, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Madison Hu, Sam Huntington, Jason Mantzoukas, Constance Marie, Linda Park, David Strathairn, and Jill Talley.

A Man on the Inside is executive produced by Mike Schur for Fremulon, David Miner for 3 Arts Entertainment, Maite Alberdi and Marcela Santibañez for Micromundo Producciones, Julie Goldman and Christopher Clements for Motto Pictures, and Morgan Sackett. Universal Television serves as the studio behind the series.

With Season 3 confirmed, fans can look forward to more of Charles Nieuwendyk’s clever investigations and comedic adventures in the upcoming year.
