The series follows a teenage Sherlock as he crosses paths with James Moriarty and becomes entangled in a dangerous murder investigation. What starts as one case quickly turns into a globe-spanning conspiracy that shapes Sherlock’s future. The show moves through Victorian England and beyond, showing the formative events that eventually create the iconic detective.

Guy Ritchie, who directed the Sherlock Holmes movies in 2009 and 2011, directs the first two episodes of the series. The ensemble cast also includes Dónal Finn as Moriarty, with Zine Tseng, Joseph Fiennes, Natascha McElhone, Max Irons, and Colin Firth rounding out the main cast.
The series is created and executive produced by showrunner Matthew Parkhill, with additional executive producers Dhana Rivera Gilbert, Marc Resteghini, Simon Maxwell, Ivan Atkinson, Simon Kelton, and Colin Wilson. Co-executive producers include Harriet Creelman and Steve Thompson, with Motive Pictures handling production.
The show promises to blend mystery, suspense, and action, giving viewers a chance to see how Sherlock’s character develops before his adult persona becomes legendary. With Ritchie behind the camera, fans can expect a cinematic style similar to his previous Holmes films, with intense energy and clever storytelling.
The premiere of Young Sherlock has also sparked speculation about a possible third Sherlock Holmes movie with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. While nothing has been confirmed, the series offers fans an exciting way to explore the early life of the detective in detail before any future films.
“It’s a chance to explore Sherlock before the legend, before the persona becomes myth,” The Playlist notes, highlighting the series’ focus on the detective’s formative years.
This series is an exciting direction for Sherlock Holmes. Instead of retelling familiar stories, it gives viewers the chance to see how the character became the iconic figure we know today. It could appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers who want a fresh perspective. What do you think about a young Sherlock taking the stage? Share your thoughts in the comments.
