Sophie Turner is officially stepping into Lara Croft’s boots for the new Amazon Prime Video Tomb Raider series, and early set photos show her fully embracing the action-packed role. The 29-year-old actress, best known for Game of Thrones, was seen performing stunts in rainy and cold conditions while filming in Surrey, UK.

In the images, Turner is harnessed on a parachute, soaring above a lake, showing off the physical demands of the role. For the scenes, she swapped Lara’s classic tank top and shorts for grey cargo pants and a navy vest, prepared for the wet British weather between takes.

Turner has been training for the role for nearly a year, and she told ScreenRant, “I’m really excited, but I feel prepped, and I feel really lucky to have such a great relationship with Amazon, and I’m excited for the world to see what we do with Lara and Tomb Raider. I think it’s going to be something special.”

The series, adapted for television by Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, is based on the iconic video game franchise and follows Lara Croft as she tackles dangerous missions around the world. Alongside Turner, the cast includes Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, and Celia Imrie. Turner follows in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, who previously played Lara, and Keeley Hawes, who voiced the character in the games.

Turner expressed her excitement about the role, saying, “She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many — and I am giving everything I’ve got. They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.”

Phoebe Waller-Bridge praised Turner’s abilities, calling her “formidable” and highlighting the passion of the team behind the show. “Everyone on board is wildly passionate about Lara and are all as outrageous, brave, and hilarious as she is. Get your artefacts out — Croft is coming,” Waller-Bridge said.
