Wiz Khalifa Mourns Father at 63 and Shares Emotional Tribute
Wiz Khalifa is going through a difficult time after the sudden passing of his father, Laurence W. Thomaz. The rapper, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, shared the sad news on Friday, February 13, describing his father’s passing as “one of quiet transition.”
He explained that his father chose not to wake up that morning, passing peacefully like “a true yogi who was entirely at peace and on his own schedule.” The bond between father and son was important in shaping the multi-platinum artist Wiz Khalifa became.
Laurence was a veteran of the Air Force, but he also played a big role in his son’s career. He opened a recording studio in Pittsburgh, where Wiz spent much of his childhood. “I lived in that studio as a child,” Wiz has said, reflecting on how those early years shaped his identity and work ethic.
In heartfelt posts online, Wiz thanked his father for the lessons he taught him and shared that the love and support from fans and the community have been comforting. “I know he’s proud that he left a positive impact on this earth,” Wiz wrote. “That legacy was literally all he ever wanted.”
This loss comes during a busy time in Wiz’s life. Just last month, on January 16, he released his ninth studio album, Khaotic, which featured collaborations with Juicy J and 2 Chainz. The album followed his highly successful 2025 release.

Wiz has also been making waves in the film world. He starred as 2wo-3ree in the Chicago crime drama Moses the Black, which premiered in theaters on January 30. He acted alongside Omar Epps and Quavo, and also served as executive producer for the film’s original soundtrack. The project was a promise to his father to continue building his acting career.
On the personal side, Wiz remains a devoted father. He recently celebrated Valentine’s Day by thanking his girlfriend, Aimee Aguilar, for her support during this challenging time. The couple welcomed their daughter, Kaydence, in July 2024. Wiz is also a father to 12-year-old Sebastian from his previous marriage to Amber Rose.
