New ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ Trailer Reveals Epic Twists in the Latest Star Wars Adventure
The wait is almost over for “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” the latest big-screen adventure set in the Star Wars universe. Fans can finally mark their calendars for May 22, when the movie hits theaters, bringing the beloved characters Din Djarin and Grogu back to a much larger stage.
Before the premiere, Disney released a new trailer giving viewers a glimpse of the scale and excitement fans can expect.
The trailer shows that the film expands on the story from the hit Disney+ series. There are plenty of new creatures, massive spacecraft, and familiar faces returning.
Pedro Pascal reprises his role as the Mandalorian, joined by Sigourney Weaver as a former Rebel pilot, Jeremy Allen White voicing a Hutt family member, and Jonny Coyne playing a leader of an Empire-loyal faction. The visuals in the trailer suggest a bigger, more cinematic experience while staying true to the series’ roots.

For those who might not remember, “The Mandalorian” first debuted on Disney+ in 2019, just before “The Rise of Skywalker” hit theaters. The show follows Din Djarin, a mysterious bounty hunter, who becomes the protector of Grogu, a baby of Yoda’s species.
Set after the fall of the Empire in “Return of the Jedi,” the series explores a galaxy where the New Republic is trying to rebuild, but remnants of the Empire still pose threats. The show ran for three seasons, in 2019, 2020, and 2023, and led to spin-offs like “The Book of Boba Fett” (2021), “Ahsoka” (2023), and “Skeleton Crew” (2024).
Director Jon Favreau returns to helm the movie. Favreau, who created “The Mandalorian,” co-wrote the script with Dave Filoni, Lucasfilm’s president and chief creative officer. The pair bring years of experience in the franchise and have been key in maintaining the continuity between the series and the films.
Fans can also expect the movie to tie into a new experience at the Disney parks. The Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run ride at both Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida will get an updated version inspired by the film. The attraction will open alongside the movie, giving fans a chance to immerse themselves further in the story.
“This is our chance to bring the Mandalorian universe to the big screen with everything fans love, but bigger and bolder,” a Disney spokesperson said about the release. From what the trailer shows, it appears to deliver on that promise, blending adventure, heart, and the familiar moral grayness of the Star Wars galaxy.
“The Mandalorian and Grogu” is shaping up to be one of the biggest Star Wars releases since 2019. With a mix of familiar characters, new adventures, and expanded worlds, it promises something for both longtime fans and newcomers. The film is scheduled for release on May 22, and fans are already buzzing online about what this new chapter will bring.
