A social media post following the death of actor Eric Dane has sparked a heated discussion after a former background actor from Grey’s Anatomy spoke out. Laura Ann Tull, who worked as an extra on the show for three years, claimed on the social app Threads that Dane “was a bully and an a-hole” in response to a Variety post about his passing.

Tull went further in her comments, saying, “He was a coward who abused me. Bullied me. Made fun of me.” She also expressed a wish that Dane had acknowledged her claims before his death, writing, “He just died. I only wish he’d apologized & admitted what he did.”

In one of her posts, Tull even claimed, “I am why he was fired from Grey’s.” These accusations echo remarks she previously made in a 2018 essay on Medium, where she described her experiences in Hollywood and mentioned Dane, even though she admitted they never spoke directly. “I worked on Grey’s Anatomy for three years as an extra, but I never spoke to Dane once directly. But I did hear him talk about me,” she wrote.

Tull also mentioned being called “weird” by others in the industry, which she said contributed to her leaving acting. However, there is no evidence to support her claim that she influenced Dane’s departure from Grey’s Anatomy. Dane himself had explained that budget and creative decisions, including rising costs for longtime cast members, were the reasons for his exit. He also stated that prescription medication issues were not connected to leaving the show.

Eric Dane, best known for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan, or “McSteamy,” on Grey’s Anatomy, went on to star in the HBO series Euphoria. He died on February 19 at age 53, nearly a year after revealing he had been diagnosed with ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease. In the months before his death, Dane had been an advocate for ALS awareness. His family confirmed he passed away “following a courageous battle with ALS, surrounded by his loving family.”

The claims by Tull have ignited a mix of support and criticism online, with many questioning the timing and veracity of her statements.

While everyone has the right to share their experiences, making serious allegations immediately after someone’s death is highly sensitive. It’s important to approach such claims carefully and consider the evidence.
