Lucasfilm has given fans a fresh look at Din Djarin riding an AT-RT in the upcoming film The Mandalorian & Grogu via Empire Magazine.

The movie will bring the beloved duo back to theaters, marking Star Wars’ return to the big screen since 2019’s Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. That film closed the saga of nine episodes, but since then, the galaxy far, far away has thrived on streaming, following characters like Ahsoka Tano, Boba Fett, and Cassian Andor. Yet no pairing has captured audiences like the Mandalorian and Grogu.

Lucasfilm co-CEO Dave Filoni, who co-wrote the film and directed second-unit, said The Mandalorian & Grogu is different from the last big-screen Star Wars return. “Episode VII was a completely different entity,” Filoni explained. “We’re in a completely different era of Star Wars now.” Unlike Episode VII, this film doesn’t need to start a new trilogy or introduce a slate of unfamiliar characters. Instead, it celebrates the story of Mando and Grogu.

Pedro Pascal, who plays Din Djarin, shared some insight into the character’s journey since the Season 3 finale. After defeating Moff Gideon and helping reclaim Mandalore, Mando settled down with Grogu on Nevarro. “It only felt like the ending of a particular chapter,” Pascal told Empire.

In the film, Mando takes on missions for the New Republic at Adelphi Base. “Combining skill and morality. Whereas when we meet him first, it’s simply skill, and beskar, and [the Mandalorian] Creed. Through his relationship to Grogu, there is an expansion of his heart and a disarming of his armour, so to speak, that leads him to fight for what he knows is right.”

Filoni and director Jon Favreau are promising that the theatrical experience will be bigger, with practical sets, extensive puppetry, and stop-motion from Phil Tippett’s studio. But at its core, the story is about Mando and Grogu. “It’s a question of, ‘Is the audience going to believe it? Are they going to feel it?’ That comes through the characters. If the characters are connecting, then the adventure plays, the action plays, the tension plays,” Filoni said.

Fans can expect action, heart, and a return to the Razor Crest as the adventure begins anew. The Mandalorian & Grogu aims to bring the small-screen fan-favorite back to theaters and set the stage for a new chapter in the Star Wars saga.

Seeing Din Djarin and Grogu on the big screen is going to be a treat for fans, especially with the blend of action and emotional depth. What do you think about Star Wars returning to theaters this way? Share your thoughts in the comments.
