Netflix has officially renewed The Night Agent for a fourth season, with filming set to move to Los Angeles, according to Nellie Andreeva. The political action thriller stars Gabriel Basso as Peter Sutherland, who will return in the new season after two previous seasons filmed in New York and the first in Canada.

Series creator and showrunner Shawn Ryan expressed excitement about the next chapter. “It’s been a wild ride filming The Night Agent in five countries across three continents to this point and we’re so thrilled that the adventures of Peter Sutherland will continue into Season 4. Our writers, our cast and our crew stand ready to answer the call to bring our incredible fans even more twists, turns and thrills,” he said.

Season 4 will focus largely on Los Angeles, marking a change from the international locations used in past seasons. Ryan hinted that the story will explore an area in Los Angeles that operates on a larger scale than New York. The season will also introduce a new partner for Peter, and several returning characters from Season 3 will appear. The show will also challenge the justification of the Night Action program.

The renewal comes shortly after the release of Season 3 on February 19, 2026. Netflix reportedly waited to see how the latest season performed before confirming the next one. Season 3 opened with 8.4 million views in its first week, slightly lower than Season 2, but gained momentum in Week 2 with 9.9 million views and a return of Seasons 1 and 2 to the Top 10.

Production for Season 4 is expected to begin by late May, taking advantage of a $31.6 million tax credit Sony Pictures TV received to move the show’s filming from New York to Los Angeles. Ryan confirmed that a writers’ room has been quietly developing scripts and breaking stories since 2025.

In Season 3, Peter Sutherland was tasked with tracking a young Treasury agent who fled to Istanbul with sensitive government information after killing his boss. Working with journalist Genesis Rodriguez, Peter uncovered a dark money network while staying one step ahead of assassins.

The show is produced by multiple teams, including Ryan and Marney Hochman for MiddKid Productions, Seth Gordon and Julia Gunn for Exhibit A, and James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, Paul Neinstein, and Nicole Tossou for Project X. David Beaubaire leads Sunset Lane Media, while Munis Rashid, Paul Bernard, Guy Ferland, and Seth Fisher also serve as producers.

Netflix has been investing heavily in Los Angeles productions recently, with projects like Nobody Wants This Season 2, Running Point Season 2, The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4, Beef Season 2, Monster Season 4, and the upcoming Ben Affleck-directed film Animals.
