New additions this year include Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, tennis star Roger Federer, music producer Dr. Dre and filmmaker James Cameron. Long-time members include George Lucas and media star Oprah Winfrey, while newer names on the list include Kim Kardashian, Taylor Swift and Rihanna.
Forbes says its definition of a celebrity focuses on people who became famous first and later built large fortunes. Because of that, the ranking mostly features entertainers and athletes rather than business figures who were already wealthy.
Spielberg stands out even among that group. His long career, major film deals and business partnerships have helped him build one of the biggest fortunes in entertainment.
