Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner’s Oscars Tension Exposed — Lipreader Spills All

At the 98th Academy Awards on March 15, Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet reportedly had an awkward moment in the theater, according to lip reader Nicola Hickling. While the pair didn’t pose together on the red carpet, they were seated near each other inside the Dolby Theatre. Timothée was nominated for Best Actor for his role in Marty Supreme.

Kylie, 28, wore a red sequined Schiaparelli gown with a key-shaped cut-out, paired with a diamond Lorraine Schwartz necklace. Timothée, 30, looked sharp in an all-white Givenchy tuxedo, complete with a double-breasted suit, tie, black sunglasses, rings, and an Urban Jürgensen watch.

Footage shared by Entertainment Tonight shows Timothée making a finger-gun gesture toward someone off-camera before turning to Kylie. Nicola Hickling noted that he appeared to speak to Kylie, but the words were only partially visible. Kylie allegedly responded while rolling her eyes, saying, “Now you’re being a child, so shut up.”

The two first sparked public interest at a Jean Paul Gaultier fashion show in Paris in January 2023 and were romantically linked by April of that year. Their first official public appearance as a couple was at Beyoncé’s Renaissance concert in Los Angeles in September 2023. They later walked the red carpet together at the 70th David Di Donatello Awards in Rome in May 2025.

Throughout awards season, Kylie has been a consistent presence, supporting Timothée at several events. At the 2026 Golden Globes, he mentioned her in his acceptance speech for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, saying, “For my parents, for my partner, I love you. Thank you so much.”

At the Critics’ Choice Awards later that month, Timothée again acknowledged her, adding, “Lastly, I’ll just say thank you to my partner of three years – thank you for our foundation. I love you. I couldn’t do this without you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.” Cameras captured Kylie mouthing back, “I love you.”

It seems even the most high-profile couples can have tense or private moments at major events. From what we can see, the Oscars may have brought some behind-the-scenes drama between Kylie and Timothée, but they remain a supportive couple publicly.
