Disney has officially confirmed that a sequel to Lilo & Stitch is on the way. The announcement came from Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro during a recent shareholders meeting. According to the company, the movie will hit theaters on May 26, 2028 just in time for Memorial Day weekend. Fans of the studio will also see Pixar’s Incredibles 3 shortly after, on June 16, 2028.

The live-action Lilo & Stitch, released last Memorial Day, was a massive success. It broke holiday opening records by earning $182 million over four days, surpassing 2023’s Top Gun: Maverick, which made $160.5 million during its opening. The film went on to make $423.7 million in the U.S. and $614.2 million internationally, becoming one of last year’s few billion-dollar hits.

Before the release of the live-action version, director Fleischer Camp and producer Eirich had not confirmed plans for a sequel. Fleischer Camp told reporters that any continuation would depend on audience reaction, saying that the world of Lilo & Stitch offered many possibilities. Eirich added that the film included Easter eggs referencing Angel, Reuben, and 627 (also known as Leroy).

In June 2025, Fleischer Camp explained that he would only do a sequel if the idea felt right, rather than simply responding to demand. He also said he would be open to exploring animated spin-offs in episodic or limited series form. Then, on June 26—known as 626 Day or Stitch Day, the studio confirmed that a sequel was officially in development.

Chris Sanders, the original voice of Stitch, is returning as a screenwriter for the first time since the original movie, and Eirich will return as producer. The new project promises to build on the story and characters that fans have loved for decades.

The sequel’s announcement has already sparked excitement among fans, eager to see Stitch and the gang back on the big screen.
