Jennifer Lawrence has spoken about feeling intimidated while working with Meryl Streep on the 2021 film Don’t Look Up, directed by Adam McKay.

In the film, Lawrence played a young scientist studying astronomy, while Streep took on the role of the U.S. president. The cast also included major names such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Timothée Chalamet, Cate Blanchett, Mark Rylance, and Ariana Grande. Despite that star power, Lawrence said Streep was the person she felt most nervous about.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Lawrence explained that she tried to keep her distance at first because she was worried about saying the wrong thing. She said, “My biggest concern was, I did not want to annoy Meryl Streep. That’s my worst nightmare. So, I will only speak if spoken to, and I will be the least annoying person in the room.”

Director Adam McKay also described how nervous Lawrence appeared when Streep arrived on set. He said she was unusually quiet and even came to him unsure of how to act around the veteran actress.

However, that initial fear did not last long. As filming continued, Lawrence became more comfortable and eventually built a friendly relationship with Streep. She even joked later that they had become close, showing how quickly the tension faded once they worked together.

The experience also changed Lawrence’s view of Streep. She realised that despite her legendary status and long career, Streep is approachable and down to earth, not distant or intimidating.

In the end, what started as anxiety turned into a positive working experience between two major Hollywood actors. It also highlighted how meeting someone you admire can feel overwhelming at first, but often becomes easier once you actually spend time with them.

This story shows how fame can create pressure that is not always real once people meet face to face. Even the biggest stars can feel nervous around each other, but that usually disappears with simple interaction. What do you think about Jennifer Lawrence’s reaction?
