Dave Grohl (57) Says He’s Had Over 430 Therapy Sessions After 2024 Out-of-Wedlock Child Admission and Public Backlash
Dave Grohl is speaking openly about his mental health journey following a difficult period in his personal life that became public in 2024. In a recent interview with The Guardian, the Foo Fighters frontman said he has been in near-daily therapy for more than a year and a half. He described a very intensive routine, saying it has become a major part of how he is working through recent events and other long-standing pressures.
He explained, “I’m doing therapy six days a week. I did the math the other day: over 430 sessions.” Grohl said the process has helped him become more honest in how he communicates, both with others and with himself. He also made it clear that his current therapy is not tied to just one incident, but to a mix of personal and emotional challenges.
He said, “There were so many things that led me to this therapy, not just one thing.” The comments come after Grohl revealed in 2024 that he had fathered a child outside of his marriage. He previously said he was focused on taking responsibility and working to rebuild trust with his family.
He is married to Jordyn Blum, and they share three daughters. In the same interview, Grohl also discussed how he has tried to deal with public reaction. He said he had to step away from online noise and outside opinions to focus on his immediate life and mental health. He said, “I had to turn everything off, one of those things being my concern for what other people think.”
Grohl also reflected on a busy stretch in his career when he was working on multiple major projects at the same time, including documentaries, a memoir, and touring. He said that constant drive left him feeling mentally drained and always chasing the next goal. He said, “There is such a thing as addiction to achievement, and it’s dangerous.”
He explained that this pattern of overwork made him lose balance in his life, even though he does not directly connect it as the cause of his personal mistakes. He said, “I need to stop, turn everything off and find my heart.”
The interview also comes ahead of new music from Foo Fighters. Their upcoming album Your Favorite Toy is set for release soon. Grohl’s honesty about therapy is important because it shows how long recovery can take and how it is not a quick fix. It also highlights how public figures deal with private struggles under constant attention. What do you think about his approach and his openness? Share your thoughts in the comments.
