Jerry O’Connell shared a wild and funny story about a tense night at home that started with a simple political comment and quickly escalated. The actor opened up during a March appearance on the Club Random with Bill Maher podcast, recalling the 2024 presidential election and how it played out in his California household.

O’Connell explained that he was just throwing out some thoughts about why the election results were unfolding the way they did. “I said something along the lines of ‘there was no planning. This is what they get. There should have been a primary.’ I said something along those lines, you know, like I was just spitballing ideas,” he said, admitting he didn’t expect the reaction he got.

That casual comment didn’t sit well with his wife, Rebecca Romijn, and their 17-year-old twin daughters, Dolly and Charlie. “My wife and daughters, without saying anything, became physical with me.

They were filled with rage,” O’Connell said, laughing as he recalled the moment. He noted that living with three passionate women means he has to be careful about his jokes or opinions on sensitive topics, especially during election season.

Bill Maher chimed in during the podcast, encouraging O’Connell to stand by his thoughts. “I am not going to tuck my tail between my legs and just shut the f— up,” Maher said, reinforcing the idea that honesty matters, even in the face of family drama.

O’Connell clarified that despite the heated response, he has always been a supporter of Kamala Harris, attending events for her campaign in Georgia and expressing admiration for her work.

Politics has long been a topic in the family, and the couple even made headlines when they attended the 2023 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, speaking positively about President Biden and the administration.

Outside of political discussions, O’Connell is busy preparing for the 40th-anniversary reunion of his breakout film, Stand By Me. He will join former costars Wil Wheaton and Corey Feldman for live screenings and Q&A events starting this spring. These events will also honor the memory of their late friend River Phoenix.

Romijn has also been busy professionally. She currently stars as Number One in the fourth season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on Paramount+ and is set to reprise her role as Mystique in the upcoming Marvel film Avengers: Doomsday, releasing in December.

Despite their high-profile careers, O’Connell emphasized that the family remains close-knit and open with each other. He joked that moments like these, where political opinions spark a strong reaction, are just part of life in a household filled with strong, outspoken women.
