Drew Barrymore recently found out that even a Hollywood star isn’t safe from honest criticism when it comes to online dating. On a March episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, she asked her studio audience to give feedback on her dating app bio.

One man didn’t hold back. Barrymore had mentioned in her profile that she wasn’t looking to get married again or have more kids. She thought it was clear and honest. “I said, ‘How does that sound to everybody? I’d love some feedback,” she told her viewers.

The man’s response was blunt. “He goes, ‘I’m sorry, it’s just really off-putting, and it just sounds like you’re un-open, immovable, and staunch and I would probably run away from you,’” Barrymore shared.

She was surprised because she was trying to create a relaxed, low-pressure vibe for anyone reading her profile. But instead of getting upset, Barrymore thought it was useful feedback.

“I was like, ‘But I’m trying to liberate men to think that this is a low lift?!’” she said. The next day, she changed her bio. She realized being too firm about what she didn’t want made her seem closed off rather than approachable.

Barrymore told her audience that keeping things simple on dating apps is probably best. “I think it’s safer to probably decree nothing on a dating app. You’re never gonna win,” she said. She added that trying to be too clever or specific usually backfires, and it’s better to save the details for real conversations.

Her dating adventures don’t stop online. She also shared a funny story about seeing a man she liked while out shopping with her friend Ross Mathews. Mathews encouraged her to go talk to him, pretending she was in a romantic comedy. Unfortunately, the man was married, but Barrymore felt proud of taking the chance.

On top of dating, Barrymore has plenty to celebrate. The Drew Barrymore Show was recently renewed for two more seasons, keeping her on daytime TV through 2028. The show is doing extremely well, with over 1.6 million viewers tuning in every day.

She’s also been busy with other projects. Barrymore appeared in a new MSC Cruises commercial with Orlando Bloom and is part of the upcoming 4K Ultra HD re-release of 50 First Dates, which hits shelves on June 23.

There are also rumors she might reunite with Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu for a new Charlie’s Angels project at Sony. Even with a busy schedule and her dating adventures, Drew Barrymore remains one of the most beloved and active stars in Hollywood.
