Kate Hudson is back on the court in the highly anticipated Season 2 of Running Point, and the new trailer makes it clear she’s ready to take charge. The series, created by Mindy Kaling, follows Hudson’s character, Isla Gordon, as she leads her underdog basketball team, the Los Angeles Waves, toward a championship. Season 2 premieres on April 23.

The trailer shows Isla stepping back into the spotlight after the first season’s shocking Game 7 loss. She reunites with her siblings, including Cam, played by Justin Theroux, who returns early from rehab. While he claims he’s changed, his reactions hint he may not be as reformed as he says. Isla relies on her best friend and chief of staff, Ali, portrayed by Brenda Song, to keep the team and family drama under control.

Fans can also expect plenty of humor and snappy one-liners from the cast. Actor Chet Hanks, who plays point guard Travis Bugg, told Tudum, “Everybody stands on their own within each one of their characters, and the way we all interact with each other just feels so natural.”

The trailer hints at romantic tension for Isla as well. After breaking off her engagement to Lev (Max Greenfield) in Season 1, she shares a kiss with head coach Jay Brown (Jay Ellis), leaving fans wondering which man will win her heart.

Season 2 also introduces new faces including Ray Romano as the team’s new head coach, with guest appearances from Lisa Rinna, Nicole Richie, Ken Marino, Octavia Spencer, Scott Speedman, and Ike Barinholtz. Barinholtz continues to serve as writer and executive producer alongside Kaling and David Stassen, who is the showrunner. Other executive producers include Jeanie Buss, Linda Rambis, Kate Hudson, and Howard Klein.

This season promises more family drama, sports action, and comedy, all wrapped up in the high-energy world of professional basketball.

Running Point Season 2 looks like a lot of fun. Kate Hudson’s return as Isla Gordon brings the perfect mix of heart and humor, and the added cast members make the season feel fresh.
