Peaky Blinders star Paul Anderson looked nearly unrecognizable when he was seen out in London this week. Fans were shocked at how different he appeared from his on-screen persona, Arthur Shelby, with a messy, disheveled look that was far from the sharp, commanding character they remember.

The actor’s rough appearance comes after he admitted to possessing crack cocaine, amphetamines, and prescription drugs following a Boxing Day 2024 outing at a pub in Hampstead, north-west London. Court records show that Anderson was with a friend and a baby when police discovered the drugs and a pipe used for smoking. At his hearing, he pleaded guilty to all four charges, including Class C prescription substances, and was fined £1,345.

Prosecutor Kevin Kendridge explained that Anderson had been recognized by fans outside the pub and tried to play up to them in a way similar to his Peaky Blinders character. “You will recognise the defendant from a very intense part that he has played in a recent television programme,” Kendridge said.

Anderson’s absence from the upcoming Peaky Blinders film, The Immortal Man, is not related to his legal issues. His character, Arthur Shelby Jr., was killed off in the movie to focus on Tommy Shelby’s story. Creator Steven Knight told Digital Spy, “The story picks which characters are going to be there,” adding that Arthur’s death helps develop Tommy’s character. Anderson called the storyline “great,” saying, “I mean, it’s such a powerful thing to do. It’s something you don’t see on TV.”

Fans have expressed concern over Anderson’s current state, noting how much he has changed since his time as the stylish and intense Arthur Shelby. From his court appearance to recent public outings, it is clear that he looks very different from the actor everyone remembers.

Seeing Paul Anderson like this is shocking. He was once a commanding presence on screen, and now he appears worn and unsettled. It’s hard not to notice the difference, and it raises questions about how personal struggles affect actors behind the scenes. What do you think about Paul Anderson’s current look and situation?
