Gillian Anderson has built a long and successful career, earning major awards for roles like Margaret Thatcher in The Crown.

Still, for many fans, she will always be remembered as Dana Scully from The X-Files.

The show first aired in the early 1990s and became a huge hit. It followed two FBI agents with very different views. While Fox Mulder believed in aliens and strange events, Scully stayed grounded and questioned everything. The series ran for years and is still popular today, according to reports from Collider.

Despite how iconic the role became, Anderson recently shared that getting the part was not easy. Speaking at MegaCon Orlando, she explained that the audition process was long and stressful. She had to try out multiple times and quickly realized she was up against well-known actresses.

She told the audience, “So, I would run into Jill Hennessy, who ended up doing Law & Order, and it was Cynthia Nixon. Right? Can you imagine? Right? And there was somebody else who then went on to The Big Bang Theory.” The competition made the experience even more intense.

In the end, she got the role that would change her life. She said everything moved very fast after that. As soon as she was chosen, she had to travel right away to begin filming the first episode.

There are now talks about a new version of The X-Files, with Ryan Coogler working on the project. Anderson may not return as the main character, but there is still a chance she could appear again in some way.

She is also staying busy with new work. A new horror film titled Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is set to be released soon, where she stars alongside Hannah Einbinder.

It’s really interesting how one role can define an actor’s career, even after many other successful projects. It also shows how tough the industry can be, even for roles that later seem perfect for someone.
