Saturday Night Live has always had a reputation for being intense behind the scenes.

Writers and performers compete every week to get their sketches on air, and even then, nothing is guaranteed until the show goes live.

Bobby Moynihan once shared a story that shows just how stressful that process can be. Speaking about his time on the show, he recalled a moment in 2010 when one of his sketches was suddenly removed at the last minute.

The sketch had already been approved and fully prepared. It involved a strange idea about a man celebrating a major milestone, and the production team had even built a special costume and set for it. Everything was ready for the live broadcast.

But just before the show began, Moynihan found out the sketch was no longer happening. It had been replaced by a different segment featuring Jane Lynch. In that new sketch, she played a well-known financial personality.

Moynihan later learned why the change happened. According to him, Lynch pushed for the switch because she had a personal connection to the person being portrayed. She told him, “Sorry, Suze Orman’s a friend of mine.”

The situation left him very frustrated. He had spent a lot of time working on the original idea, and losing it so close to airtime was difficult to accept. Looking back, he did not hide how strongly he felt about it. He said, “I still want to kill her to this day.” The comment was meant to show just how upsetting the moment was for him.

Stories like this highlight how unpredictable the show can be. Even when a sketch is approved and prepared, it can still be removed if something changes. Guest hosts can sometimes have influence, which can create tension with the regular cast.

This shows how tough the environment is on a show like this. A lot of work can disappear in seconds, and that can be hard to deal with. At the same time, it also shows how passionate the performers are about what they create.
