Filming for the new Tomb Raider series has been paused after Sophie Turner suffered an injury on set. Turner, who plays Lara Croft in the Amazon Prime Video show, is taking time off to recover. The series also stars Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Celia Imrie, and Bill Paterson.

An Amazon MGM Studios spokesperson said, “We look forward to resuming production as soon as possible.” Reports suggest Turner could return to filming within two weeks. The production break will not affect the crew’s pay, and preparations are already underway to continue once she is ready.

Sources say the injury may be connected to the physically demanding nature of Turner’s role. Turner reportedly has a pre-existing back condition, which worsened during filming. One insider shared, “Sophie has been throwing herself into the role, but the grueling physicality of being Lara Croft has meant she has pushed her body too far.”

Earlier this year, Turner opened up about the intense training required for the part. “We’ve been doing eight hours a day, five days a week, since February last year of training, so it’s been a lot,” she said. She added, “Which I never had. So it has taken me months and months and months to get into good shape. That’s what I’ve learned.”

The upcoming series follows Lara Croft, the adventurous archaeologist, in a new live-action portrayal. Turner becomes the third actress to take on the role, after Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.

This pause is a reminder of how demanding action roles can be, even for seasoned actors. Sophie Turner’s dedication is clear, and fans can look forward to seeing her return stronger on set.
