John Cena is set to make a return to WWE, but not inside the ring. The 17-time world champion confirmed in a video shared on WWE’s official social media pages that he will serve as the guest host for WrestleMania 42.

This will be Cena’s first WWE appearance since he stepped away from active competition. His return answers recent questions from fans after he hinted earlier this month that he still had plans to stay involved with the company in some way.

In his message, Cena said, “Since retirement, my road has looked a little different but now I can officially say I’m headed to WrestleMania. See you in Las Vegas!” WWE also confirmed the news, making it clear that Cena will play a big part in the event even without wrestling.

The guest host role has been used before in WWE history. Dwayne Johnson once took the role at WrestleMania 27, which later helped build his major feud with Cena. The role can range from short appearances to being deeply involved in key moments during the show.

Cena retired last year after losing to GUNTHER in his final match. His last run included a major win over Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41, where he captured his 17th world title before ending his career. His time in WWE lasted over 20 years and made him one of the biggest stars in the company.

WrestleMania 42 will take place on April 18 and 19 at Allegiant Stadium. The event already has several major matches confirmed. CM Punk is set to defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Roman Reigns. Randy Orton will challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship. On the women’s side, Rhea Ripley faces Jade Cargill, while Becky Lynch goes up against AJ Lee. Other matches include Brock Lesnar taking on Oba Femi and a clash between Drew McIntyre and Jacob Fatu.

Cena’s return adds extra attention to an already packed card. Even without a match, his presence is expected to be a big moment for fans watching the event.

This is a smart way to bring Cena back. He still has a huge connection with fans, and this role keeps him involved without risking a full comeback in the ring. It also gives WrestleMania a strong familiar face. What do you think about Cena returning as host? Do you want to see him wrestle again, or is this the right move for him now?
