Jen Shah is opening up publicly for the first time since leaving federal custody, admitting she feels deep regret for the crimes that landed her in prison. The former Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star, now 52, shared her reflections on her mistakes and emphasized that she is ready to take full responsibility for her actions.

“I was wrong. I made wrong decisions. I should have done things differently. I should have been more diligent. And I’m deeply remorseful and sorry for my actions and for my part. I take full responsibility,” Shah told reporters in an exclusive interview.

Her arrest in 2021 followed a high-profile case involving a telemarketing operation that federal authorities said targeted thousands of people, often older adults or those struggling financially.

Shah pled guilty and spent nearly three years at a federal camp in Texas. She was released in December and is now serving the remainder of her sentence under home confinement. Prosecutors described her as a key figure in the scheme, which involved selling overpriced, ineffective business services using aggressive lead lists.

Shah admitted that she didn’t fully understand the operation at first. She said she ignored warning signs and let personal relationships interfere with her professional responsibilities.

“It can happen if you’re not careful, if you’re not being diligent, and you’re not paying attention to the red flags. But you have a responsibility once you’re in that position to make sure it doesn’t,” she explained.

During the years leading up to her arrest, Shah faced significant personal struggles. She lost several family members, was temporarily separated from her husband, and dealt with clinical depression.

She says these challenges affected her decision-making, but stressed that they are not excuses for her criminal behavior. She noted that she often tried to cope by drinking and avoiding her problems.

A turning point came in mid-2022 when her legal team walked her through the evidence collected by the government. Seeing the direct impact of her actions on victims changed her perspective.

“I saw for the first time that there were people who were hurt. That there were actual victims as a result of this conspiracy. I had never seen anything with my own eyes. That changed things for me,” Shah said.

As of April, Shah is living under home confinement in Phoenix while focusing on her family and legal obligations, which include over $6.6 million in restitution. She has been seen spending time with her husband, Sharrieff Shah, and their children. However, Andy Cohen has confirmed that she will not be returning to the Real Housewives franchise.

Shah says she is now focused on making amends and moving forward. She has expressed interest in writing a book and advocating for prison reform based on her experiences. While she was once known for luxury and defiance, she says her priority is to show personal growth and accountability.

Shah remains under the supervision of the Phoenix Residential Reentry Management Office until her projected full release in late August. For now, she hopes people will see beyond the headlines and recognize her efforts to rebuild her life.
