The world of James Bond is about to expand once again, this time in print, as a brand-new novel has been announced ahead of Amazon’s upcoming reboot of the iconic spy franchise. Three years after fans last followed 007 on a cinematic adventure, details for the next chapter in the spy’s story are finally coming to light.

According to MI6 – The Home of James Bond, the new book, titled King Zero, will be written by Charlie Higson, the author behind the “Young Bond” series and the popular 2023 novella On His Majesty’s Secret Service. This marks Higson’s first full-length adult James Bond novel, a milestone he described as “very exciting” and “something special.”

“It’s very exciting. It is very hard to get people excited about books, so when the publisher goes to this level of effort, it says a lot. There I finally am after over 20 years of toiling in the world of writing James Bond! My first big, full-length Bond novel is coming out, and it’s really exciting to be part of the world of James Bond. It’s something special,” Higson told MI6.

King Zero is set to hit shelves in September 2026, and fans now know a few tantalizing details about the plot. The story begins with a mysterious assassination in the Saudi desert. Only someone with inside knowledge could have carried out the killing, and James Bond must track the trail across the globe to uncover a secret that could change everything. The novel promises classic Bond elements, including betrayal, a ticking clock, and a villain with unprecedented power.

“Le Chiffre. Dr No. Goldfinger. James Bond has faced them all. But now the world is changing, and even 007 has no idea what’s coming for him… Prepare for a villain unlike any before. Prepare for KING ZERO,” the book’s synopsis reads.

While the novel is not the next movie, its Middle Eastern setting, shadowy traitors, and a formidable new enemy may hint at what could appear in the upcoming James Bond film, which is still shrouded in secrecy. Denis Villeneuve is set to direct the next movie, with a script by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, though plot details remain tightly guarded.

The James Bond franchise recently came under Amazon MGM Studios after producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson stepped back from their creative roles in February 2025. Fans are already speculating about who could take on the legendary role of Bond. Current favorites include Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Theo James, and Harris Dickinson.

The release of King Zero offers a first glimpse into the future of the 007 universe, keeping fans eager for what comes next, both on the page and eventually on screen.

It’s exciting to see Bond return in a fresh story that combines high-stakes espionage with new characters and modern twists. Charlie Higson taking the reins could give longtime readers a thrilling new perspective on 007. What do you think about the next James Bond novel and the upcoming reboot?
