Actor Shares Why Explicit DMs Made Him Leave Instagram for Good
Armie Hammer is opening up about why he stepped away from Instagram and why he also stopped working on his podcast. He spoke about all of this during a recent appearance on the Punk Rock Sober and Painful Lessons podcast, where he gave a very direct explanation for his choices.
According to Hammer, leaving Instagram was not about losing followers or status. He said the real reason was the kind of content he was seeing every day. He explained that his inbox had become filled with messages that made him uncomfortable, and many of them were explicit.
He described the space as “pure filth” and admitted that it started to affect him more than he expected. He also shared that he did not trust himself to simply ignore the messages. He said the constant stream of videos and content made it hard for him to stay away.
Because of that, he decided that deleting the app was not enough. He needed to remove his account completely so he would not be tempted to come back. That decision, he said, helped him feel more in control.
During the same podcast, Hammer also talked about why he ended his project called The ArmieHammertime Podcast. He originally started it to talk openly about his life after a very difficult period. But over time, he was told that being so open might actually hurt his chances of returning to acting.
He said someone he trusts in the industry gave him honest advice. That person told him that sharing too much about his personal struggles made it harder for people to see him in a professional way again. It also made it difficult for audiences to miss him. Hearing that made him rethink how much of his life he wanted to share in public.
This all comes after a very rough few years for Hammer. Back in 2021, his career took a major hit after serious allegations about his behavior became public. After that, he stepped away from Hollywood and spent time in a treatment program to deal with personal issues.
He has since said that some of his past behavior, especially online, was influenced by substance use and poor judgment. Now, he is trying to move forward and rebuild his career. He recently appeared in a film called Frontier Crucible, directed by Travis Mills.
The movie is set in the 1870s and follows a former soldier dealing with a dangerous situation in the desert. He is also set to appear in another film called Citizen Vigilante, directed by Uwe Boll. In that project, he plays a man who becomes well-known online after taking justice into his own hands.
Hammer is slowly returning to acting, but there are still mixed opinions about his comeback. Some people are open to seeing him work again, while others remain critical. For now, he seems focused on making careful choices and keeping more parts of his life private as he tries to move forward.
