Jenny McCarthy had a frightening health scare that left her dealing with persistent infections and strange eye growths. The 53-year-old TV personality shared her experience on Maria Menounos’ Heal Squad podcast, revealing just how serious the situation became.

She explained that the trouble started after a root canal that wasn’t properly cleaned. The infection didn’t stay put. It spread into her jawbone, creating toxic pockets under her wisdom teeth. Even after eight surgeries and multiple root cavitations, the infections kept coming back, leaving McCarthy frustrated and exhausted.

On top of that, she noticed pus-filled growths on her lower eyelid that would return shortly after being removed. Reflecting on the ordeal, she said, “Now I’m into July, oozing infection coming through my eye, my mouth is being infected, we put the implants in, the implants were rejected, and I’m like, ‘What is going on!?’”

The breakthrough came when her functional medicine doctor looked deeper. They discovered that McCarthy was suffering from mold toxicity, also known as mycotoxin poisoning.

This explained why her immune system wasn’t able to heal and why antibiotics seemed ineffective. McCarthy shared that her pre-existing issues with candida and leaky gut made her even more vulnerable to the mold exposure.

She recounted a warning from her doctor that made her realize the danger of the situation: “[The doctor] goes, ‘If this thing that you’ve got crosses the blood-brain barrier, you’re gonna be in the hospital having seizures. I’m like, ‘Oh my God.’”

Even while managing this health crisis, McCarthy stayed busy. She returned as a panelist for the fourteenth season of The Masked Singer, which ended on April 1, and is set to return for the fifteenth season later this year alongside Robin Thicke, Ken Jeong, and Rita Ora.

Outside of television, she’s continuing to grow her vegan and cruelty-free beauty brand, Formless Beauty, which now includes professional-grade makeup tools and lashes. McCarthy is also developing a new daytime talk show and video podcast with Warner Bros. TV Group’s Telepictures.

She was recently seen at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, talking about her ongoing health advocacy and her focus on detoxing from mold exposure. By sharing her story, McCarthy hopes to raise awareness about environmental causes behind chronic, unexplained infections.
