Brian Cox doesn’t hold back when it comes to sharing his thoughts on Hollywood. In a recent interview with The Times UK on April 3, the 79-year-old Succession star openly criticized Margot Robbie’s casting as Cathy in the new Wuthering Heights.

Cox questioned whether Robbie fit the role, joking about her looks and past work. ā€œMargot Robbie is far too beautiful for that role. I mean, I think there should be something more of the Gypsy about her, but it’s wrong of me to judge. It may be a brilliant film,ā€ he said, even doing a playful Australian accent to poke fun at her soap opera background.

The actor also spoke about past disagreements with other famous actors, including Jeremy Strong and Daniel Day-Lewis. When asked if he had tried to make peace with Day-Lewis, Cox said he hadn’t, adding, ā€œbecause it’s got nothing to do with Dan Day-Lewis. Dan Day-Lewis, he’s discreet. He never upsets [the filming process].ā€

About Strong, Cox admitted he appreciates the actor’s talent but dislikes the extreme method of acting. ā€œHe’s a good actor, Jeremy. He’s a wonderful actor. It’s just all the bollocks that goes with it. You watch children — they don’t say, ā€˜What’s my motivation?’ They just do it!ā€

Cox has a long history of speaking his mind about Hollywood stars, from Johnny Depp to Ian McKellen, and he doesn’t seem worried about ruffling feathers. He laughed when asked if his bluntness had caused problems in his career or personal life. ā€œI think, ā€˜F–k it, I don’t want to be careful anymore! I’ll be 80 this year. F–k it! I’m gonna say what I want to say,ā€™ā€ he explained, noting that his wife often tells him to tone it down.

Despite the strong opinions, Cox is keeping busy. He borrowed his voice to Helm Hammerhand in the animated movie The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, which tells the story behind Helm’s Deep.

Even as he nears his eighth decade, Cox shows no signs of slowing down, proving that speaking his mind and working hard can go hand in hand.
