Lamar Odom is speaking out about his 2015 overdose after the release of Netflix’s Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom, which premiered on March 31. The documentary revisits the former NBA star’s near-fatal collapse at a Nevada brothel and his long road to recovery.

While the film highlights Khloé Kardashian as a key figure in his survival, Odom offered a different perspective during a recent interview. Appearing on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle on April 6, the 46-year-old downplayed the idea that Kardashian saved his life. “In some ways, God saved my life. My lord saved my life, honestly,” he told the hosts.

He acknowledged her support but insisted that his survival was largely a spiritual experience. “Yeah, she took care of me,” he said, “but God took care of me the most. What I came back from is like a medical miracle.” The documentary also shared Kardashian’s claim that Odom’s father, Joe, wanted to pull the plug while he was in the Nevada hospital, allegedly motivated by inheritance.

She said she had to give him sneakers and cash to convince him to leave. Odom strongly disputed this story, noting that he was unconscious at the time and that such behavior would have been out of character for his dad. “If you know Joe Odom, I don’t think that’s something he would ever come out of his mouth. He was my biggest fan. I don’t know where that got mistranslated,” he explained, wearing a memorial necklace for his parents.

Odom also reflected on a February 2025 reunion with Kardashian for The Kardashians on Hulu. The meeting took place at a friend’s home and involved returning sentimental items. He described the encounter as uncomfortable but said it reaffirmed their family bond.

“It was awkward, and it wasn’t really good for me. But once you’re family, you’re always family, so she ain’t going nowhere,” he said. He clarified that while he still cares for Kardashian, he is no longer in love with her.

Since the documentary and media appearances, Odom has focused on his health and personal projects. He recently completed a 30-day wellness program and continues to prioritize his recovery and business ventures, marking a period of growth after years of personal struggles.

The Netflix documentary and Odom’s interview offer fans a closer look at the complexity of his life, showing that survival, family, and faith all played roles in his recovery.
