DC is continuing to push bold new ideas in its Absolute Universe, and the latest reveal from Absolute Batman shows just how far things are going. The series has already reimagined major villains like Bane, The Joker, Poison Ivy, and Mr. Freeze in very different ways. Now, attention has shifted to Robin, and this version is nothing like the classic sidekick fans know.

The new reveal comes from DC’s preview of Absolute Batman #20. The creative team behind the book, Scott Snyder, Nick Dragotta, and Frank Martin, have introduced a completely new take on Robin. Instead of a single character, the story features multiple Robins working together as a group.

The cover art shows a team that looks more like a force than a partner to Batman. At the center is a large armored figure, designed like a mech, carrying a heavy weapon. Around him are other members of the group, including another armored figure and several smaller riders on motorcycles. Each one uses different colors tied to the Robin identity, making it clear this is a full squad.

This idea connects to the long history of Robin in DC Comics. Over the years, several characters have taken on the role, including Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, and Damian Wayne. This new version seems to take that legacy and turn it into something more aggressive. Instead of helping Batman, these Robins appear to be working against him.

Details about their story are still limited, but DC has shared a short description for the issue. It hints at a major event in Gotham that leads to their arrival and suggests that secrets will be uncovered along the way.

“As the dust settles in the city of Gotham after the loss of [redacted], Robins enter the scene ready to hunt and more than one secret will be revealed in this seminal issue.”

This points to a larger storyline tied to a recent death, though DC has not confirmed who the character is. It also makes it clear that these Robins are not just background characters. They are stepping into the spotlight with a clear mission.

The visual design of the team stands out. The use of armor and vehicles gives them a more militarized look. It also changes the usual dynamic, as Batman appears smaller and less dominant when compared to them.

Absolute Batman #20 is set to release on May 13, 2026, and it looks like it will be an important chapter in the series.

This is a bold move that could either work really well or feel too far from what fans expect. Turning Robin into a group of possible enemies is a big shift, but it also opens the door for new stories. It will depend on how the writers explain who they are and why they exist. What do you think about this new version of Robin? Do you like the idea of multiple Robins working together like this? Share your thoughts in the comments.
