Pete Davidson Shares Emotional Story Behind His Sobriety Decision
Pete Davidson has opened up about a personal moment that played a major role in his decision to get sober. The story came out during his appearance on the podcast This Past Weekend, where he spoke honestly about his past struggles and how things eventually changed for him.
In the conversation, Davidson explained that his life had been affected for years by addiction and unhealthy patterns. He said he often pushed people away, even those who cared about him. He described a cycle where he would test relationships until people eventually stopped trying.
The most important turning point, according to Davidson, came from a conversation with his mother, Amy Waters Davidson. He said she expressed a deep fear that one day she might wake up and see news of his death. That moment had a strong emotional impact on him and made him rethink the direction of his life.
He recalled that the conversation made everything feel very real. Davidson said it helped him understand how much pain his situation was causing his family, especially his mother. That realization pushed him to seriously commit to getting help and stepping away from drugs.
He also spoke about how his father’s death during the September 11 attacks had already shaped his life in many ways. Losing his father at a young age had left a lasting impact, and he acknowledged how difficult it was for his mother to raise him on her own.
Davidson explained that his sobriety gave him a chance to rebuild his life. He said he was grateful to be in a better place and to have more stability. At one point during the interview, he said, “Thank God that I’m sober and where I am—I wish I had more time.” He also reflected on how unprepared he felt in the past and how different things are for him now.
Today, Davidson’s life has changed significantly. He has become a father, welcoming a daughter named Scottie Rose with his partner, Elsie Hewitt. He has spoken about how important it is for him to be present and stable for his child.
Professionally, he is still active in entertainment. He is set to appear in the upcoming film How to Rob a Bank, directed by David Leitch and produced by Amazon MGM Studios. The movie is expected to be released later this year.
He is also continuing his stand-up comedy work, with shows that focus more on storytelling and personal experiences. His recent material often includes reflections on recovery, family, and fatherhood. Davidson is also preparing for appearances at the Netflix Is A Joke festival, where he is expected to perform new material.
