Sony has revealed the first trailer for Insidious: Out of the Further during its presentation at CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas. The studio used the event to introduce the next chapter in the long-running horror series and give audiences a preview of what to expect.

During the presentation, Sony’s distribution chief Adam Bergerman spoke about the film’s tone and promised a stronger level of fear compared to past entries. “I assure you this movie is the most terrifying in the franchise,” he told the audience.

The story follows a new set of characters rather than continuing directly with previous leads. Amelia Eve plays Gemma, a young mother who moves back into her childhood home with her daughter. As explained in the trailer and official details shared by Sony, she begins to experience strange dreams and soon realizes she has a connection to “The Further,” the spirit world seen in earlier films.

Gemma’s situation becomes worse when she learns she can not only enter this dark place but also bring its entities into the real world. This discovery turns her into a target for dangerous spirits. In the trailer, her fear grows as she struggles to protect her child. “We were really happy until I started having these dreams,” she says. “I’m scaring my daughter. I need someone to tell me how to stop this.”

The film is written and directed by Jacob Chase. It continues the story after Insidious: The Red Door but shifts focus to a different family. Lin Shaye returns as Elise Rainier, a familiar character from earlier films, while Brandon Perea also appears in a key role.

Production details confirm that filming took place in Australia in 2025 and wrapped later that year. The project is part of a major horror franchise that has earned over $740 million worldwide, according to Sony.

Insidious: Out of the Further is scheduled to be released in the United States on August 21 by Sony Pictures Releasing.

The film looks like a strong return for the series. Focusing on a new family while keeping the same supernatural world is a good idea. The concept of bringing spirits into the real world could make the story more intense. What do you think about the trailer and this new direction? Do you think it can be the scariest film in the series? Share your thoughts in the comments.
