Fans Stunned as Tom Cruise Reveals New “Digger” Look at CinemaCon
Tom Cruise has appeared in a completely new look for his upcoming film “Digger,” which was shown during CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas.
The movie is a comedy directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. At CinemaCon, the studio showed an early teaser that gave audiences their first clear look at Cruise’s character, Digger Rockwell. In the footage, Cruise is shown as an older man with white hair, wrinkles, and a heavily aged appearance created with makeup and prosthetics.
Director Iñárritu was present at the event with Cruise and spoke about the transformation. He told the audience, “Watching Tom Cruise becoming Digger Rockwell, I was not prepared for that.” The reaction in the room was strong, with many attendees responding to the unexpected change in Cruise’s appearance.

The story of “Digger” follows a character who is not easy to get along with. He is shown as grumpy and isolated, with the exception of his pet cat. The film also introduces his business, which is involved in large-scale drilling. That operation becomes a problem when it leads to serious environmental damage, forcing the character into a major conflict.
Iñárritu said the role is one of the most demanding projects Cruise has taken on. He explained that while Cruise is known for physical stunts in action films, this performance required a different kind of challenge. He described it as a very difficult acting role for the actor.
Cruise also spoke at CinemaCon about the film. He said, “is wild, it’s funny, and I can’t wait for you all to see it.” After the event, he also posted about the experience on social media and shared his excitement about the film’s release and the wider state of cinema.
Actor John Goodman also appears in the film. In the teaser, he plays the President of the United States. His character is shown dealing with the environmental crisis caused by Digger’s company and demands action to fix it. This leads Digger to take on the situation himself in a direct and unusual way.
The project has been in development for many years. Reports say Cruise and Iñárritu have been working on it for nearly a decade in different stages. The film was previously known under another working title before becoming “Digger.”
The movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 2.
This is a bold direction for Tom Cruise. He is usually linked to action roles, so this kind of transformation is very different from what fans expect. It could work well if the comedy and story balance properly with the heavy makeup and unusual character design. What do you think about Tom Cruise in this type of role?
