Does Homelander Die in ‘The Boys’ Comic? What Will Happend in the Series?

If you’ve been watching the TV adaptation of The Boys, you know Homelander as the indestructible, milk-loving, ego-driven nightmare of Vought International. But if you’re looking to the original source material—the comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson—for a glimpse into his future, the answer is definitive.

Yes, Homelander dies in the comics. And his end is far more gruesome and ironic than you might expect.

The Short Answer: Who Kills Him?

Homelander meets his end in Issue #65 of the comic series. Surprisingly, he isn’t killed by Billy Butcher, Hughie, or any of “The Boys.” He is killed by Black Noir.

In the comics, Black Noir is not a silent ninja with a nut allergy; he is a clone of Homelander created by Vought as a fail-safe. His sole purpose for existing was to kill Homelander if the “Supe” ever went truly rogue.

The Big Reveal: The Man Behind the Mask

For much of the comic’s run, Homelander is haunted by photos of himself committing unspeakable acts—cannibalism and necrophilia—that he has no memory of performing. This leads him to believe he is losing his mind, eventually triggering his total psychological breakdown and his decision to lead a Supe uprising against the U.S. government.

However, the final confrontation in the Oval Office reveals a dark truth: Black Noir unmasks himself, revealing a face identical to Homelander’s. Noir confesses that he was the one who committed those atrocities and sent the photos to Homelander.

Noir was “born” to kill Homelander, but because Homelander hadn’t “gone bad” fast enough, Noir began committing horrific crimes in disguise to frame Homelander and drive him toward a confrontation. Noir was literally going insane waiting for his “purpose” to be fulfilled.

The Final Fight: A White House Massacre

The battle between the two is brief but catastrophic. While they are evenly matched in terms of power, Black Noir has the advantage of being “fresh” and purely focused on the kill.

By the time the dust settles on the White House lawn, Noir disembowels Homelander, effectively ending the reign of the world’s most powerful Supe. Homelander is reduced to a pile of remains, with only his upper torso and head left somewhat intact.

A severely wounded Black Noir is then finished off by Billy Butcher, who uses a crowbar to crack open Noir’s skull and retrieves his brain, ending the Vought fail-safe once and for all.

How This Differs from the TV Show

It is important to note that the Amazon Prime series has taken a drastically different path. In the show, Black Noir’s identity has already been revealed as a different character (Earving), and he was subsequently killed by Homelander at the end of Season 3. While a “New Noir” appears later, the show has leaned more into the father-son dynamic between Homelander and Ryan, rather than the “Evil Clone” trope.

While the TV show might find a different way to take down the Man of Gold, the comics provided him with a death rooted in poetic (and very bloody) irony: he was destroyed by the very shadow he didn’t know he had.

As the Season 5 is coming to the end, how do you think Homelander’s faith will play out in the TV show? Let us know in the comments below.
