It’s a packed week on Netflix as the platform rolls out a huge wave of new content to kick off May. With dozens of fresh movies and series landing all at once, the catalog has just gotten a major refresh. From action and animation to familiar fan favorites making a comeback, there’s a lot to sort through right now.

Man on Fire (Season 1)

A new action-heavy series has landed on Netflix this week, and it’s already getting attention. Man on Fire reimagines A.J. Quinnell’s story as a gritty modern thriller, with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II taking the lead and delivering a standout performance.

The series focuses on fast-moving action and tense sequences, with a style that leans darker and more intense than typical adaptations. Early responses have been generally positive, with critics highlighting the strong acting and sharp direction. Some, though, have pointed out that the storyline doesn’t fully match the impact of the earlier film version, even if the series still manages to hold its own as a solid new addition to Netflix’s lineup.

Bugonia (2025)

After making waves in theaters, Yorgos Lanthimos’s latest film has now arrived on Netflix for streaming. The director once again teams up with Emma Stone, alongside Jesse Plemons, for a strange mix of sci-fi, comedy, and dark humor that leans into his usual offbeat style.

The film continues Lanthimos’s run of bold and unusual storytelling, blending uncomfortable moments with sharp satire. It’s already generating strong reactions, with some viewers praising its originality while others are more divided on how it all comes together by the end.

Don’t Breathe (2016)

A tense survival thriller has just landed on Netflix, bringing Fede Álvarez’s Don’t Breathe back into the spotlight. The story follows three young thieves in Detroit who think they’ve found an easy target when they break into the home of a blind war veteran.

What starts as a simple break-in quickly turns into a nightmare. The man they underestimate turns out to be far more dangerous than expected, trapping them inside and turning the situation into a brutal fight to escape. The film is known for its tight pacing and constant pressure, creating a claustrophobic experience that keeps the tension high from start to finish.

Dracula Untold (2014) 

Dracula Untold is a 2014 fantasy action film that reimagines the origin of the legendary vampire Dracula.

The story follows Vlad III, a real historical ruler known as Vlad the Impaler, who is trying to protect his family and his kingdom from the expanding threat of the Ottoman Empire. Faced with an impossible war and an outmatched army, Vlad makes a desperate decision. He turns to a dark supernatural force hidden in a mountain cave.

There, he encounters a powerful ancient being who offers him strength far beyond human limits. Vlad accepts the deal, gaining superhuman abilities like extreme speed, strength, and control over bats and darkness. But the power comes with a cost. If he gives in fully to his thirst for blood, he will become a vampire forever.

As war approaches, Vlad must decide whether to embrace this cursed power to save his people or risk losing his humanity in the process. The film blends historical drama with dark fantasy and action, showing the beginning of the Dracula myth through a more heroic and tragic lens.

Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016)

Ouija: Origin of Evil is a 2016 supernatural horror film that serves as a prequel to the original Ouija movie.

The story is set in 1960s Los Angeles and follows a widowed mother who runs a small séance scam business with her two daughters. They pretend to contact spirits for grieving clients, using tricks and staged effects to make the readings seem real.

To make their act feel more convincing, they introduce a Ouija board into their setup. But things take a dark turn when the youngest daughter begins to experience something real. She starts communicating with what seems like an actual spirit, but it quickly becomes clear that the presence is far more dangerous than anyone expected.

As the family’s lives spiral out of control, the spirit begins to take hold of their home, targeting them one by one. What started as a fake business built on deception turns into a terrifying fight against a malevolent force that refuses to leave.
