Netflix Action Thriller Explodes Worldwide — 60M Hours Watched as It Dominates U.S. Charts
A new action movie is quickly becoming one of the biggest hits on Netflix right now.
The film, Apex, only came out on April 24, but it didn’t take long for it to climb to the top. According to Netflix’s official weekly numbers, the movie was the most-watched film worldwide between April 20 and April 26. In just a few days, it pulled in 38.2 million views and reached over 60 million hours watched. It also ranked number one in the United States during that same period.
The story follows a woman who ends up in a dangerous survival situation while traveling in Australia. She is forced into a deadly chase with a killer, turning her trip into a fight to stay alive.
A big reason for the film’s success is its cast. Charlize Theron leads the movie, bringing her experience from action films like Mad Max: Fury Road and Atomic Blonde. She stars alongside Taron Egerton, who is still popular with audiences after his breakout role in Kingsman: The Secret Service.
The movie has also received decent reviews. It currently holds a 64% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics say the story is not very original, but the performances and action scenes help carry the film. Director Baltasar Kormákur has been praised for creating strong visuals and intense moments. The short runtime of about 95 minutes also makes it an easy watch.
This kind of movie fits perfectly on streaming. It’s simple, fast-paced, and easy to jump into after a long day. On a crowded cinema schedule, it might not have stood out, but on Netflix it has found a huge audience.
