Charlize Theron is making it very clear how she plans to raise her two daughters, and it involves zero entitlement and a strong focus on independence.

In a recent conversation on the podcast Therapuss with Jake Shane, the actress talked openly about her parenting style and how she wants her kids to understand the value of money and work. She shares two adopted daughters, Jackson, 14, and August, 11.

Theron explained that big life purchases will not be handed to them. She said the idea is for them to earn things themselves, especially when it comes to milestones like their first car. She even joked about keeping expectations realistic when it comes to new drivers.

“First of all, your first car is going to be a Datsun, because you’re going to crash it,” she said during the interview, according to Therapuss. “You’re going to f— it up somehow. You’re a new driver. So, we’re not getting, like, the nice car up front.”

She also made it clear that her kids will be expected to work when they are older. In her view, learning responsibility early is important, and she doesn’t plan to support them forever.

“Yeah. Every time we go to Starbucks, I’m like, ‘Look at this … Do you see how friendly? You have to be that friendly every morning at 6 a.m. Start getting ready for it,’” she joked while talking about teaching them what real jobs look like.

Theron added that her main goal is to raise self-sufficient adults who can take care of themselves without depending on her financial support. As reported by the interview on Therapuss, she said she wants them to understand that earning money is part of life, not something optional.

“It’s too soon to kind of say where they’re going to end up,” she said. “They just need to get a job that pays them, because I don’t want to support them for the rest of life.”

The actress has spoken before about parenting as a single mother. In past interviews, including one with Call Her Daddy, she described her decision to adopt and raise her children on her own as something she feels strongly shaped her life in a positive way.

Her latest comments continue that same message. She is focused on giving her daughters a grounded upbringing, where independence and effort matter more than privilege or luxury.
