‘Elle’ Teaser Trailer: Legally Blonde Prequel Explores Elle Woods’ High School Years
Prime Video has shared a first teaser for “Elle,” a new series that looks back at the early life of Elle Woods. The show serves as a prequel to the hit comedy Legally Blonde, which originally starred Reese Witherspoon.
The series is set to arrive on July 1 and will focus on Elle during her high school years. Viewers will see how her personality and confidence started to take shape long before college. Even before its first season airs, the show has already secured a second season renewal from Amazon’s streaming platform.
Newcomer Lexi Minetree takes on the lead role. She steps into the shoes of a younger Elle after appearing in smaller roles in shows like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. The cast also includes June Diane Raphael as Elle’s mother and Tom Everett Scott as her father.
Several familiar faces will appear throughout the series in recurring roles. These include Chandler Kinney, Logan Shroyer, and James Van Der Beek, among others.
Production on “Elle” began in April 2025. Witherspoon announced the start of filming online, sharing excitement about the project and hinting at how challenging high school life can be for the character. Behind the scenes, the show was created by Laura Kittrell, who also works as co-showrunner with Caroline Dries. Jason Moore directed the first episodes, while Witherspoon also serves as an executive producer.
The goal of the series is to explore the moments that shaped Elle into the confident young woman fans remember from the original film.
This prequel has a good chance to attract both old fans and new viewers. Going back to Elle’s teenage years could add depth to a character people already love. At the same time, prequels can be tricky if they don’t bring something fresh. It will depend on how well the story connects with today’s audience. What do you think about revisiting Elle Woods’ past?
