Joe Russo Shares Which Marvel Cinematic Universe ‘Avengers’ Film He Loves Most
Joe Russo has shared new details about Marvel’s next big film, Avengers: Doomsday, and made it clear that the project stands out from his past work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Speaking about the upcoming movie, Russo admitted that it has become his top choice among all the Marvel films he has worked on. “If you’re going to come back, you’ve got to make sure that you’re going to meet expectations,” he said. “Endgame was so well received that the pressure was enormous for a return. It’s just another movie. But I’ve got to be honest, I feel like Doomsday is my favorite of the bunch.”
He also hinted that the film will feel different compared to earlier Avengers stories. According to him, the tone sets it apart in a noticeable way. “And I’m ecstatic that it all worked out, because it’s got something that the other movies don’t have, in a way. There’s a tone to it that is really unique.”
The movie is expected to play a key role in the future of the MCU. It will introduce a major new threat, with Doctor Doom taking center stage. The character will be portrayed by Robert Downey Jr., marking a surprising return to Marvel in a very different role.
To prepare audiences, Marvel is also planning to bring back Avengers: Endgame to theaters. This version will include new scenes that connect directly to “Doomsday.” Russo explained the idea behind this move: “It’s critically important to re-release the movie, and, in fact, we’ll be re-releasing the film with footage that is set in the Doomsday story that we have added to Avengers: Endgame.”
He added that this approach helps link past and future stories in a new way. “It’s an opportunity to create a bridge from Endgame to Doomsday in a very unique way… It’s a really unique opportunity.”
The changes also come after Marvel shifted its long-term plans, moving away from its earlier direction and building toward a new storyline centered on Doom.
Calling “Doomsday” his favorite project sets high expectations. It suggests the film could bring something new to the MCU, especially after the success of earlier Avengers movies. Still, fans will want to see if it truly delivers on that promise. What do you think about this direction for Marvel and Russo’s comments? Share your thoughts in the comments.
