After the strong box office run of The Devil Wears Prada 2, talk about a possible third film has started picking up again. Director David Frankel, who has been behind both movies, did not shut down the idea when asked in a recent interview with Variety.

Frankel said a return to the world of Miranda Priestly, Andy Sachs, and Emily Charlton is still possible, depending on timing and the right story. He made it clear he is open to coming back if everything lines up.

“Look, it took us 20 years to do this one. And I said, ‘Never again,’ and here we are. So, I certainly would never say, ‘Never again,’ again. Let’s see what happens. If there was an opportunity to revisit the characters and to share a few months with these wonderful actors again, obviously, I’d love it,” Frankel said in the interview with Variety.

The second film picks up around two decades after the original 2006 movie. It follows Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, along with Andy Sachs, played by Anne Hathaway, and Emily Charlton, played by Emily Blunt. The story shows where their lives and careers are now, while also revisiting their complicated relationships.

Behind the scenes, the sequel brought back much of the original creative team. This includes screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, producer Wendy Finerman, cinematographer Florian Ballhaus, composer Theodore Shapiro, and production designer Jess Gonchor. Frankel’s return as director also helped keep the tone close to the first film.

The movie itself has done well financially. According to box office updates reported at the time of writing, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has earned over 253 million dollars worldwide on a budget of around 100 million dollars.

There is also existing source material that could support another sequel. Lauren Weisberger, who wrote the original novel, has continued the story in later books. Revenge Wears Prada follows Andy and Emily as business partners, while When Life Gives You Lululemons focuses more on Emily’s life.

Even though nothing is confirmed, the combination of strong box office numbers and available story material has kept fans talking. The success of the second film has also sparked wider discussion about whether Disney might continue expanding other older film franchises in similar ways.

For now, there is no official green light for The Devil Wears Prada 3, but the director’s comments make it clear the door is not closed.
